Water

Water (H2O) is the most abundant element in the body (60-70% of body weight) and needs to be constantly supplemented.

Functions of water in the body:

  • a solvent in which most of the body’s chemical processes take place
  • nutrient transport
  • waste disposal
  • regulation of body temperature

Daily fluid intake (RDI) is individual (depending on age, climatic conditions, physical activity …) In general, 1.5 – 3l per day is recommended, and if possible drink regularly throughout the day.

People need water which is enriched with some “impurities”, especially minerals, because completely pure distilled water tends to remove minerals from the body. We consume water in beverages (water, mineral water, tea, fruit juices …), but it is also a part of food (often in high proportion). In addition to standard excretion, we also get rid of water by sweating and breathing.
