Trans fats

Trans fats are fats with trans geometry. They are not suitable for long-term consumption in larger quantities – it’s recommended to avoid it in the diet.

Trans fats are mainly produced by processing of unsaturated fats such as:

  • thermal processing (frying, deep-frying)
  • industrial partial hydrogenation (semi-finished food products, margarines)

Saturated fats cannot have trans geometry. Therefore, if we still want to fry, it is recommended to use pork lard (saturated fat) if it fits within the individual total intake of saturated fats.
